We recognise that children ARE individuals and we need to support, engage and encourage them as the amazing young people they are…

1.. When was the last time you offered an individual follow up experience for this child?
2.. Are you confident YOU know their current interests?
3.. Are you confident YOU know a skill that needs encouraging?
4.. Plan an experience that offers this skill => and includes their current interests?
=> This is a basic follow up
=> This is how we can guide and build our children’s confidence
… Step by step by step
Key one => Know your children
Key two => Understand their development
Key three => Offer next level skills in a way that children are interested and will want to engage in

Challenge yourself as an Early Childhood Educator
How can you find the FUN in everything YOU do WITH the children?
I CAN’T stand it – the whinging – the whining – the negativity from educators
IF YOU need to have a whinge
Do it in a way that will move you forward
Do it with the aim to find a SOLUTION
A solution YOU can use
A solution that will help YOUR children
A solution that will see a better day for YOU and your precious children
PLEASE don’t whinge and whine without a goal
Without an aim
Without a purpose
Without the dedication of trying all the suggestions thrown at YOU
Yes ASK for help
Yes VENT
Yes whinge and whine occasionally
BUT
Listen for the help
Listen for the understanding that comes
Listen for the experiences that will be shared with you
AND
Take them
TAKE them and USE them…

I Don’t Want MY CHILD to miss out!!


Do you DO experiences with your children
BECAUSE you see others doing it??

Time to re-evaluate

Re-assess your practice
WHAT are you offering the children?
WHY are you offering an experience?
HOW will you be offering value to your children?
BECAUSE…As early childhood educator’s
It’s about the CHILD
The value of each experience
The learning that is offered
The next step by step by step
NOT what other educators are doing with their children
OR let’s do this it will be fun
OR that special day is coming up
OR I don’t want my children to miss out
YOUR DECISION needs to be
IS this experience a valuable learning experience for my child’s next step?
YOUR FOCUS needs to be

YOUR COMMITMENT needs to be

Think over your program for the last month
Think over your planning for the next month
AND if YOU say YES
I AM offering valuable learning experiences
Then move forward and continue offering value to your children
AND if YOU say NO
Do some soul searching – Make some changes – Look at the children in your care – focus on development – Be brave – Dig deep and call yourself on the hard decisions
Now don’t get me wrong
I love offering the children interesting, creative experiences
That are fun, that are some special days, that are out and about in the community

Reflective Practice – What does it mean to you?


As I am sure many of you know
I work with educators finding their way with Programming,
Guiding, supporting and sharing what I have learnt along the way on my journey
as an educator.
I love to support educators with taking a serious look at
What’s working?
AND what’s not!?!
Now how do you tell if your program is NOT working
1. You have unsettled children or crazy days that just don’t work
2. You don’t feel fulfilled as an educator
3. You have that nagging feeling that you need to change something but you are not
quite sure what?
Really the only way to move forward is with Reflective practice
Reflecting on again
What is working?
AND what is not!?!
Critical Reflecting on our practices as early childhood educators.
I popped up a meme this week that says just this
“Focus on Reflective Practice to move forward” and I am really serious about this if you
are feeling stuck, unhappy as an educator or like something needs to change
then you need to start using Reflective practice.
Now I have worked really hard to simplify this over the last year, into a way that is
teachable
real
and the nuts and bolt of what is important
not wishy washy theory
but what really is proven to work.
So
TO REALLY REFLECT AND GET RESULTS there are three things I recommend and if you
have been listening, reading, sharing our time with Shine as an Educator you will know this already
– but this is where I wanted to start…
1.. LOOK AT A CRITICAL REFLECTION QUESTION – What do we actually need to look at, what is it
that we are struggling with, articulate it, break it down, what is the crocs of the issue that
needs be to improve and requires or demands our focus.
What is not working for us as educators, what is not working with the children or within
the setting we are in.
2.. A CHALLENGE – brainstorming about all the different ideas we have to improve a
situation – pick one and put it into place – really commit to taking action
3.. AND THEN A TOP TIP FOR YOU – which is about seeking out what work for others, getting
advice from experienced educators
These are my actual steps for reflective practice and I hope it helps you, whether you do
this weekly or monthly is totally up to YOU.
But over the past year I have been doing this
with many educators and the feedback is incredible – it really, really WORKS!!
My aim this year is to really connect and support as many educators as I can.
The two real stand out struggles from last year that I receive questions and
requests for help with are Reflective Practice and educators feeling isolated or even
lonely.
And this really does effect me – it makes me feel sad that educators are not finding what
they – YOU – need and I am really wanting to step up this year and do something about
it…
So because reflective practice has become such a big part of what I am doing and how I
am currently helping educators
