#05 Shine as an Educator – Training that inspires?

Early Childhood Educators

Wow what a massive week we have had!!
This week has been a massive challenge, attending training, struggling
with sickness in my service and having to cancel days and then a wonderful
delivery of an exciting new workshop. Talk about a wild ride!!

Question Time…

What training inspires and excites you??
Our modern world gives us the opportunity to attend training how it suits us.
Online Webinar – Face to Face – Seminars – Workshops
All can be used to build your network, confidence, knowledge and skill.

Our Challenge…

Look around and find some new training to attend!!
Sometimes we can find great training when we step outside our comfort zone.
I share with you my experience attending BEC networking opportunities in my
city of Orange. Very much out of my comfort zone but so worthwhile.
Never under estimate the real connections you can make by attending a business
seminar – webinar – training where people are enthusiastic and interesting and
really want to be there.

Top Tip…

Know the way you connect with others.
Seek out training in the area that you as an individual need and really make it personal
to your journey as an educator.

I would love to hear from you

#04 Shine as an Educator – Interviewing Parents

Early Childhood Educators

Episode #03 saw us reexamine the boundaries you have in place for your families.
This is a perfect opportunity to also look at our very first contact with new clients/
families in #04.
As Educators we often focus on the children and forget, or don’t feel comfortable to take
a business approach as well. Todays episode, I share with you some of my interview
techniques and how I invite families to come for their first visit. Interviewing Parents.

Question Time…

Do your interview questions need revisiting,
are they up to date?

Have an interview process that you can use over and over. Develop a process that shares
the values you want to portray in your service.
I set up interviews for morning tea time. A positive, fun morning is what we are aiming
for right from the start.
Remember to sell your service and the benefits of Family Day Care.

Our Challenge…

Add two new interview questions that reflect your service.

Spend time getting to know the Child and Parent.
But also discuss these areas – and add your own questions to personalise the interview.
Routine
Have they used care before?
What preconceived ideas do they have coming into FDC?
Sleep times
Quiet times
Wellness discussion
Set clear boundaries
Expected communication
Healthy eating
Allergies
Routine and Non Routine Excursion
Animal interaction
Fee Policy
Scheme contact and visits
Offer a Portfolio or photo album, for a deeper understanding of your service

Top Tip…

Keep a list of question that reflects you as an educator in
your Family Day Care

We interview parents, interview them as well as you can.
Trust yourself and find the confidence to say no!! to a new client if the placement of that
child in your service is not in the best interest of you, your other children in care or the
new child.

I would love to hear from you

#03 Shine as an Educator

Early Childhood Educators

What did you decide to change or improve this week?
Episode 2 Challenged you to take a sniper of time and think about changes you may
need…
Then place that decision into actionable steps that you were committed to – in a set time
frame.
We recognised the importance of documenting your intentional decisions, for use as
evidence of growth and development. This step will help you as you need to create
other documents such as you qip and your philosophy.

Now on with Episode 3 –

Question Time…

How do you take time out and give yourself some love?
I received an email this week about recognising and preventing burnout. A very real
and important issue in Family day care. I share 3 non negotiable times I set aside
for myself, encouraging you to look at the systems you have in place to support and
help you.
# A minimum of half hour quiet time, every day, where I also have a little downtime.
# Getting up a half hour earlier on hump day for personal time. (I often wash my hair,
lol, but in my mind it is personal time to do whatever I want with. hehehe )
# Wednesday night I have a personal training session which is important to my head and body.
These are just a few of my many systems I have in place, I would love to hear some of
yours??

Our Challenge…

Re examine the boundaries you have in place for your families.
Be sure to set up firm boundaries with new clients.
Parents are not mind readers, clear professional conversation will keep your values and
boundaries. Newsletters are also an easy way to remind parents of your requirements in
a friendly non confrontational way.

Top Tip…

Plan your week well.
Make a non negotiable appointment with yourself and keep it. If you are asked to do
anything for anyone it is often easier to say – ‘I am sorry I have an appointment’
– yes it is with yourself but it is as important as an appointment with anyone else!!
Priorities your own health and wellbeing, think of it as a gift you can give yourself and
your family.
Your number one priority this week… Plan when you will refill your cup, so that you
have enough love and support to share with those you love, and all of the many areas in
your life that need you…

I would love to hear from you

#02 Shine as an Educator

Early Childhood Educators

How did you find episode 1 – A little confronting?? We as educators spend so much time
worrying about others wellbeing, we don’t often take the time to focus on ourselves.
I hope you took the time to really Reflect to Critical Reflect, and celebrate YOU.

Now on with episode 2 –

Question Time…

Is there something you need to change??
Take the time to think about how you want to feel… Now what changes do you need
to make??

Our Challenge…

Change or improve just one thing you do this week!!
It could be as simple as intentionally changing the way you interact with someone or a
much larger goal, make the commitment to do one thing.
Write it out and share if you would like – if you write a goal down you are much more
likely to have the commitment to followed through with your challenge – Improve just
one thing you do this week.
Check out Simple Reflect – The latest documenting tool for Educators

Top Tip…

Document your critical Reflection insight well – they can be used for so much in your
business.
Over the coming months we will use our Critical Reflections. Collating and creating our
Critical Reflections will help delve into our true feelings and goals with in our business
and working with our precious children.

I would love to hear from you
