Devastating or Motivating

I have NEVER EVER questioned my passion for working with Educators
more than the last few weeks…
You see…
I LOVE working with early childhood educators
I LOVE knowing an educators potential,
even before they believe it themselves
The support, growth and motivation of an educator,
to see with wide open eyes,
the difference that EVERY educator can make in the life of a child,
is certainly part of my motivation
The last few weeks I have been genuinely shocked,
saddened, outraged and truthfully devastated
by some of the statements coming from peoples mouths
You need to know I am a passionately, positive person
Promise not to laugh – let me share a personal secret –
a beautiful friend teases me saying I am the rainbow unicorn lady…haha
Yes a bit of a play on words as I love horses
and working with children with horses too,
it did make me smile and giggle and then laugh out loud,
I am sure it will be the new running joke for a while,
but I ALWAYS look at where to next in the most positive light possible
I LOVE positivity
I LOVE the possibilities

Sometimes that positivity is seen as outrageous,
wildly optimistic or even frustratingly unrealistic…
But this is me => I use my positivity to motivate,
to drive change,
to share the possibilities to lift others up
where some may be tempted to give up
Part of what motivates me is also knowing
there is always a new challenge around the corner
a new way to help and share with others
So WHY have I been questioning??
AND I have been
I have cut back my live streams,
trainings, podcasts, and blogs, today as I journaled
I realised for the first time it is out of sheer frustration
FRUSTRATION at the most ridiculous things I have heard
Statements that have been going around and around in my head!!
MAYBE I just need a good RANT to share them
and have others agree what ludicrous things are being said
BUT this is ME and I always look to the positivity
SO what good can come from me sharing some outrageous statements
There is always 2 ways (or more) to look at EVERYTHING
YES I now realise
I need to share some of these statements
AND move them from frustrating, devastating and outraging me
to MOTIVATING US as educators to…
=> Critical Reflect
=> Self Regulate
=> Speak Out
=> Journal a little AND choose to turn outrageous things
that others say regarding passionate early childhood educators
And with things being said like…
+ Educators are baby sitters and don’t need training
+ Early Childhood Educators don’t really need numeracy and literacy skills
+ Additional needs children are in the too hard basket
+ We can’t comfort children there isn’t enough time
+ I need to do what is best for everyone not the individual child
+ We don’t have enough staff to go outside with the children
+ Programming is a waste of my time
+ I know it’s not right but I can get away with it
These statements are infuriating, saddening and simply outrageous
Where is… the empathy, understanding and compassion?
Where is… the commitment to being the best educator you can be?
Where is… the duty of care and dedication to each child in your care?
They are REAL conversations I have had with educators 🙁
Now is the time to say enough is enough
WE NEED to choose
TO SHOUT this is NOT ok
To use these statements to make change
As MOTIVATION as learning and teaching points,
NO I won’t let this go
Yes YOU will continue to see me SUPPORT and CHALLENGE YOU
BECAUSE this is what I DO !!
Remember to shine

Write It Down!!

“Do I really need to program,
I just put out things for the children to play with and they free play!!”
This is an educators comment to me and this is what I needed to say…
In your head you ARE programming!!
You thought about…
> What the children would be interested in?
> Where you would place the items?
> How many items you placed out?
You also need to think about…
> What do your children need to learn next?
> What is age appropriate and confidence building?
> How can you extend on the children’s interests?
Check out Simple Reflect – The latest documenting tool for Educators
In your head you ARE programming, you just need to write it down!
Write your program using your professional language,
in a way that becomes a continual cycle.
Create a resource with your programming
that you can come back to and parents can read
what you offered their child.
You are ALMOST doing all the things,
you just need to recognise you are and WRITE IT DOWN!!
But why don’t you write it down?
Is it confidence? Is it questioning? Is it time?
Is it all of these OR none of them?
Have you NOT found a way that works for you?
Beautiful early childhood educators,
you KNOW what you need to know
Throw away the questioning, the perfectionism,
the self doubt and write down what YOU need to write down.
YOUR precious children need an educator that LOVES being an educator
and it’s time to do it in a way that works for YOU!!
Claim the next step and only the next step, one sentence at a time
It is time to make the decision
Right NOW
You are going to write your program down
You are going to write it down AND stay up to date!
P.S Are you looking for training and support NOW is the time
to claim it and move forward.

What Does It Mean to Shine??

What does it mean to YOU?
I’ve been flat this week
Struggling to find the energy
It’s the end of the year and I am ready for a break
For some time – time for my son, my husband, time for me
But I say to myself
I say to YOU
We still need to shine
What makes YOU the educator you are today?
Why do I say to educators
“Remember to Shine”?
“Shine as an Educator”!!
Check out Simple Reflect – The latest documenting tool for Educators
YOU have precious children
that NEED what YOU have to give…
Support them
Nurture them
Engage them
Snuggle and comfort them
Challenge them
Guide them
Let them know – our precious children –
that YOU are a trustworthy person
A beautiful early childhood educator that
WANTS to spend time, earning children’s trust…
WE need to earn children’s trust &
WE need to hold a safe space for them EVERY time they are with us!
I am an Early Childhood Educators and this is my commitment!!
Be the shining – stable – predictable – wonderful EDUCATOR
The one the children know – trust – NEED
When everything is crazy at this time of year
BE the educator with a smile
BE the educator with the laugh
BE the educator with the compassion – love – caring – joy
I beg you to be the educator the children desperately need you to be…
What does it mean – TO YOU – to shine?
Share how you are shining?
P.S How are you refilling your cup over the Christmas break?
so you don’t burn out,
so you have the motivation
so you will LOVE being with the children in 2018…
Programming, Critical Reflection, connection to children and family’s we talk about it all in the Shine as an Educator group and you are invited to join 🙂

The Best Educator?

It is YOUR decision…
Have you made the decision?
The decision to be the best educator YOU can be??
Each year I challenge myself…
Challenge myself to be the best educator I can be
To each of us,
the best educator,
means something completely different
As I grow each year as an educator
As I reflect on my practice
As I become more experienced and the world changes
As my children grow and my families need adjust
The best educator
The best me, WILL be different from last year
Each year in January
I take a little time to reflect on the year as a whole
Yes what worked and what didn’t
It is more than that
It is how I can better serve the children and families in my care
Moving forward, how has this changed?
What will work for me as an educator??
What needs to be added or subtracted from
EVERY PART of me being an educator?? ?
Nothing is off the table
If I want to be happy, energised, motivated during the year coming,
this is the step not to miss
You can only be the best educator YOU can be IF you DECIDE
how you want your year to be AND take action to make it that way
Check out Simple Reflect – The latest documenting tool for Educators
NOW is the time to be ruthless
Are there new routines needed?
Do I need to focus on connection with my new children?
Were there parts of my day that just didn’t flow?
Does my environment need changing or a spruce up?
Are there resources I used last year that I don’t want to use again?
Do I need new or more age appropriate experiences?
Is my programming seamless and enjoyable?
Do my systems work for me?
Am I staying up to date with my paper work requirements?
Did I reflect as an educator in an effective way?
Am I keeping up with my children’s interests and learning needs?
How am I growing and developing as an educator?
These are the types of questions that are invaluable for
kicking of the year on the right foot AND celebrating
what worked and taking action to change what didn’t
AS WELL AS asking myself on point questions
Bellow are my must do tasks for the first week back…
>> Set up a calendar for the year – include school holidays
AND our holidays… for the whole year
>> Confirm any enrolments, advertise outstanding vacancies
>> Check enrolment details for all families are current
>> Update any new contracts
>> Confirm there are NO outstanding fees
>> Continue an ongoing programming cycle…
Yes educators often get out of the habit over
Christmas or leave it a week or two after to get back into it,
regrettably starting off the year needing to catch up.
Avoid this at all cost by kicking back into it on your first day.
It sounds like a lot
If you had a system that worked well last year
the above tasks should take no time at all
Being an educator can be easy, can be fun, motivating and fulfilling!
YES it takes focus, systems, determination and the
DECISION to stay organised and up to date…
why not start fresh at the start of the year
It is time to start now!!
It is your time to Shine as an Educator
